This is one of 12 short, stylized video graphic interviews with the pioneers of modern cryptography for RSA. These videos are a prelude to a longer, more indepth historical piece that will premier at this years RSA Conference at San Francisco's Moscone Center.

Len Adleman is a terrifically smart, articulate mathematician who along with Ron Rivest and Adi Shamir, invented the RSA Algorithm. As is clear in this short piece, Len was a pure joy to speak with.

RSA Conference 2010 Show Open Music Performance Background

cyberia created a scenic design for a musical number based on the Bangles "Walk Like an Egyptian" for the RSA Conference 2010. In addition to video playback that spanned 90+ feet, our artwork was displayed on LED monitors that extended 100' to either side of the stage.
The visuals referenced iconic Egyptian imagery, hieroglyphs the Rosetta Stone Text, The languages used on the Rosetta Stone (Egyptian, demotic, and greek), the RSA letterforms in the languages of the Rosetta Stone, and a Dancing Napoleon.

For the fourth year in a row, cyberia had the pleasure of being the media production company for the RSA CONFERENCE.

The opening video for 2010 explored the conference theme, The Rosetta Stone.

Over 100 hand drawn illustrated elements were made for the Show Open video and background elements.

Each day a new Edgar Allan Poe quotation was used as the theme and unique words were chosen to be highlighted. Videos were projected onto 3 synced screens 90 feet across. The algorithm in the opening is the RSA security code.

Every Year the RSA Conference picks either a historic individual or a Conceptual theme as an overall element used throughout the shows media. This year the individual was Edgar Allen Poe.

In our time ... in our industry ... Edgar Allan Poe has a special significance. He proved that logic will always rise to the challenge ... to solve what others believe insoluble.

Last week was spent getting together and preparing all of our submissions for the annual design competitions. It's a hectic time with all of the forms, procedures, preparations and rules, but we got it done (thank you fedex overnight), with time to spare.

Above is a packaging cover we did for HOME, an experimental short movie Richard made.

Stamp System

We are at 7 stamps and counting in our graphic stamp system. These are good quality, old time rubber stamps with big wood handles. Got to love them. If you get anything from us in the mail, chances are you'll be on the receiving end of our handmade graphic magic.

We really liked the new "GREEN" recycled paper packaging for our DVDs and thought we had to design some ink stamps to really take advantage of them. The color and texture of the paper just screams "Stamp Me." So we came up with a system of stamps to use on the DVD and all of our different envelopes.

We are really enjoying the handmade look and the different layers of texture we get from stamping directly on the paper, on pre-printed elements, and even on top of other stamps.

We recently tried to increase the Green in the land of cyberia. We've switched over to 100% recycled DVD cases instead of the plastic kind. It's something we have been wanting to do, but it took a while to find one that we liked.

The Joy of flying

Armed with only his iphone, Richard constructed this beautiful little piece while on a flight from Cedar Rapids to St. Louis.

The accessibility of new creative tools through technology presents opportunities to act on inspiration and to experiment constantly. The simplest thought or concept can now be flushed out, explored and manipulated with a device that fits in a pocket.

Richard was able to capture the sense of awe and romanticism that used to define the flying experience while focusing on a very basic concept, the world outside his small portal window.

cyberia recently finished the identity suite for a boutique production company, Flying Fish Media, that focuses on documentary type projects.

We focused in on the visual idea of a school of fish, many smaller fish, coming together to construct the elements to a larger fish.

Design wise, this was an interesting exercise in the use of negative space. The relationships between the many little symbolic fishes and the negative space between them was a delicate process.

The RSA Conference put together a highlights reel incorporating our original videos with video shot from the show floor.

The total triptych was about 68' wide by 20' tall. The center screen was 15' wide by 20' tall, and the two side screens were 26.7' wide by 15' tall.

The scenic sides (projection) were 90' wide by 15' tall on each side of the video screens.

With Edgar Allen Poe as the theme for the RSA show, we had to choose which EAP graphic icons to feature. It was decided very early on that one of the icons should be the raven because it offered an interesting plot device along with many opportunities for dynamic visuals.

These are some of the early conceptual explorations we made for use in our story boards and presentations.

We used many different techniques in creating the backgrounds for RSA.

It was an excellent opportunity to try new things and expand our knowledge base.

We have been working on a video project for the RSA Conference.

Every year RSA picks a famous artist, mathematician, or thinker as a subject/theme for the show video and graphics. For 2009 the selected person was Edger Allen Poe. We had to produce myriad assets to compliment EAP and the iconic imagery associated with him.

This is one of the background paintings we created. They were some of the first visual elements that were designed and painted so we could start visualizing a direction and a graphic feel for the project. We started by thoroughly researching EAP, reading his works, watching over 20 hours of dvd, and researching imagery related to him.

When you are your own client, it's the hardest. Trying to brand and present your own work is always difficult and hard to express. The process can be painful; Self-editing, reflection, review, and debate. Then repeating the process over and over again. This version of the site was born through many hours of hard work and love.
